For a little winter conditioning we decided to sign the girls up for a season of Basketball. We decided to save time with practices and games by putting Bella AND McKinnon on the same time. So Bella (in 3rd grade) played on McKinnons team of all 5th graders. Bella is pretty tall for her age, so we thought she would be up for the challenge. She certainly had a good attitude about it, but the first game left me a little scared. Those 5th grade girls were VERY aggressive and VERY tall. I thought to myself...what have I done to poor Bella, she would be so good on a 3rd grade team, but can barely hold her own on this aggressive 5th grade league. Well each game got better and better and very soon she fit in just like all the other 5th graders. She certainly stepped her game up.
She even got the ball and made a basket during one of the games.
McKinnon was our intense defensive player. She was know to quickly follow the ball and steal it away from anyone. She has an intensity and concentration about her that was very impressive to all who watched.
Gabby's favorite time of the game was snack time. She and her best friend Hadley were on the same team and enjoyed when their coach would put them in at the same time so they could pass the ball to each other.
Even though Gabby enjoyed basketball her passion is still soccer. She tried to incorporate soccer moves into her basketball game play, but they would quickly follow with a whistle. For example, during one game there was a jump-ball type "scuffle" at about half court with two opposing players. Gabby saw this happening and thought she could help out by moving in for a quick "step-kick". She approached the situation methodically with a nice kick and sent the basketball sailing half court into the spectators watching the game. We all watched in amazement and fear hoping this perfect kick did not injury anyone involved. Everyone was fine AND she did not score a goal for the team with this move.
Chandler was such great supporter to his sisters... Not all the games were too exciting, he tried his best to look excited while he slept during the games.
