Those were the days!

A few months back Weston (my brother) sent an email with some recently discovered photos he found. This is me taking a break from a hectic day of picking peas all day (probably...). We all had our rows in the garden that we were responsible for keeping weed free and then later in the season we had our rows that we needed to pick. As a kid of course I thought this was unreasonable and certainly way too much work! BUT, it did keep us busy. NOTICE the shoes...wow those are great. Were those my gardening shoes?

My Grandpa Virchow, Mom and Dad checking out the newly forming garden. I think this must have been around the mid-1970s.

Kris, me and Teressa hanging out in the yard.  I love the clothes!

Kris, Teressa and I tasting more garden goods. What a beautiful garden!   Dad had quite the green thumb, acreage, and a solid work force (to keep the garden well weeded and harvested). I would love some some of those fresh garden veges more than anything now.

I have such fond memories of the evening dinners around "corn" season where I would simply eat about 10 ears of corn for dinner.  The kernals were so young and tender they would pop off the cob!  I also loved the evenings where dinner was a yummy BLT sandwich with a thick slice of garden tomato, yummy bacon, toasted white bread, mayonase, and lettuce!

This year I think I'll just plant a managable tomato plant - or go crazy and plant a pumpkin plant as well!

Can't believe how much Mckinnon looks like you in those pics! I am pretty sure those weren't your garden shoes! Probably your everything shoes from the looks! :)
